Follow your passion

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

I went to University for a number of years and came away with a Masters Degree in Science majoring in Psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation I then went and worked for the Blind Foundation.  When our second child was born he had very severe allergies so I  had to give up work.  This is when I discovered my passion for photography.   He is now 7 and I am still obsessed with all things photography and have turned that into a business which I love.

I had the pleasure of photographing Candace Little in the studio for her head shots for acting.  Here is a young woman who is following her passion, Candace  I wish you all the luck in the world.

Photo a day: Day 30 & 31: A weekend away

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

We as a family have had a great Summer break, loads of visitors have come and stayed and we have caught up with lots of friends and family.  The last two weekends have been wonderful with weddings to shoot .  This weekend however was our last weekend before the kids head back off to school so we took the opportunity to get away.  There was not a computer in sight for the whole weekend much to my children’s delight.  I did however take my camera and I snapped a few pics of my favourite all time animals at Arana park.  If you have not been there you really should take your family.  Allow a whole day and wear good walking shoes as there is a lot to see.

Old Gates

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

I really love old gates, flowers and textures.  So today’s photo a day for today is St Lukes Church in Oamaru.  I drive past it all the time admire in but I have never once stopped and got out and looked at it.  So tonight I did.  I even lay on the pavement in front of the church to take photo’s from some very strange angles.  Hope you enjoy.

Pure Kakanui Tomatoes

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I get to photograph some interesting things.  No shots of my girls but instead you get to meet the tomato family.  Kakanui is  renowned for its wonderful soil, I am currently doing promotional material for Pure Kakanui, previously known as Kakanui Produce.  They have the best vegetables around and they are all soil grown, you can really taste the difference.  If you are at the Dunedin Farmers Market this weekend and say a big hi to Chris and Viv.

Day 20: Homestyle Magazine

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Well I have been hanging out to blog about this, but I had to wait until the magazine had been published.  Every now and then I take time out from photographing beautiful people to go and photograph beautiful houses.   This was a shoot for Homestyle Magazine that I did just before Christmas.  The house was a very cool Eco house in Omarama.  The home owners were a delight to work with and the shoot went really well.    The lovely people from Homestyle Magazine have also added a small contributors feature with a lovely picture of me  (lol I hate having my photo taken) and a small write up about me in the magazine.  I must say seeing your photo in a magazine is a little strange.  In the write up they have let a little secret I have been sitting on out of the bag, I wont be spilling the beans here for a while so  to find this out you will have to buy the magazine.  I can show you the photos that make up the four page spread however.   To read the article you will,  like I said before ‘just have to buy the magazine’.

Carving art out of stone

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

I have a very good friend who is a very talented carver, and mother to 4 teenagers (busy lady). She does her carvings usually traditional Maori type carvings out of Oamaru stone.   This is her workspace I just loved the old stool and box with the tools waiting there to be used.

Photo a day day 7:

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I say this all the time when I talk about Kakanui, but I truly believe we are lucky to have our family home here.  So tonight because I was so late doing my photo a day and the kids where all tucked up in bed I snuck out to find inspiration for my photo a day.  Well sometimes you can’t tell a story with just one picture so here are 4.  If you want to see it in colour you will just have to visit (or flick back through my blog).   Hope you enjoy.  Sorry their are no cute children.  I’m sure they will return to my blog tomorrow.

Thanks Barbies I owe you one!

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Well I had a small panic then for a second, kids all in bed and I haven’t done my photo of the day.  So, I went for a wander around the yard.   What do I find but the barbies heading off to a party at our fire pit (that’s the bokeh in the background) which is great for parties and toasting marshmallows.   They kindly stopped for a second and let me take a quick pic before they headed off.   I had to laugh,   this is what happens when our boys play with the girls you get barbies in ball dresses and dump trucks – excellent!!

Blossom Festival

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

We headed over to sunny Central Otago for the  Blossom festival.  It  is a bit of a family tradition of ours since we were little I have a picture somewhere of me in a smart little pinafore at the blossom festival when I was 4 or 5.  We missed last year  so this year our whole family went, the weather was great and we had a wonderful time.  Here are a couple of pics from the parade and one of Keeghan being a clown at the fair ground after the parade.  I didn’t get to take too many as you can imagine this type of outing with 5 kids is a little hectic!!
